Welcome to Dolores Park Church. Thanks for visiting our website today, and we hope you’ll visit Dolores Park Church soon. Here are answers to some of the most common questions people ask before coming to Dolores Park Church.
Whats happening on Sunday? As a family of faith we gather to pray, worship God, open the Bible to listen to and learn from God's Word, as well as encourage and care for one another as friends and the community of Christ. Some of us show up early for prayer at 10:30am in the Chapel/Library. But you can also feel free to join us for the start of our worship service which begins at 11:00am. The service lasts approximately 90 minutes. After worship each week we hang out in our Community Fellowship Room on the street level for an open time of chillin', chattin' and general good times. minutes.
How do I get there? Dolores Park Church is located at 455 Dolores Street (at the corner of Dorland) between 17th and 18th streets.
(Click here for map and driving directions.)
Public Transportation: The J Church, 33 bus, and 16th street BART are all public transit options. Check MUNI and BART’S website for times.
Is there parking? You are in luck! We use the parking lot across the street next to Mission High School. It is open from 9:30-1:30pm.
Where do I go? Well, as you face the church building you can't miss the big glass front doors. That's where you want to enter, but before you do stop by the DPC Coffee Cart and grab a cup of coffee or tea. You're welcome to bring your drink upstairs and into the sanctuary. As you enter just follow the crowd up the stairs. If you have a disability that makes it difficult to navigate a flight of stairs, there is a live video feed of the service in our "Chapel/Library.” Feel free to ask the greeter, who is shaking hands at the front door, for directions. Or just go straight through the doors in the back of the street level lobby, walk through the community fellowship room, and continue through the doors in the rear. The chapel is will be on your left
What about your Coffee and Ecology? These are two very important issues in the world of San Francisco. We take our coffee fairly seriously and brew Ritual coffees on a regular basis. We also try to connect with fair trade coffee growers in the developing world and purchase coffee that will support the farmer directly. We believe we are called to be stewards and caretakers of God's beautiful creation so we compost and recycle. Look for the blue and green bins around the church.
Does anyone care what I wear? Wear what you are comfortable in. You’ll see some in their “Sunday Best”, but most folks wear casual and comfortable clothes on Sunday morning. We are more concerned about you than what you wear.
What about children at church? Is there a children's program? Children are vitally important to the life of our community! It is our joy and responsibility to spiritually nurture our children through a variety of developmentally specific and intergenerational settings. Children learn to worship through song with the entire community during the first 25-30 minutes of our 11am worship service.
After singing and announcements, pre-school age children through 5th grade are invited to gather for children’s church in their respective age groupings. Teachers will meet the children at the back of the sanctuary when they are dismissed. Parents are welcome to join their children to observe the class. Children are also welcome to stay with their parents in the sanctuary for the entire service.
Is there a Nursery for babies and toddlers? We have a beautiful and safe Nursery on the second floor of the education building just around the corner at 65 Dorland St. Child-care for children under the age of 3 is provided in the Nursery each Sunday. The Nursery opens at 11:00am for child drop-off and is equipped with a pager system so that you can be contacted if there is a need. There is also a soundproof infant room at the back of the sanctuary for parents to care for their infants as needed.
Youth? There are Jr. High and High School groups that meet weekly. The High School group meets every Friday from 7-10pm. The Jr. High group meets every Sunday from 6-8pm. Both groups also meet on Sundays from 10-10-45am. At every meeting they hang out, play games, and spend time studying straight from the bible. For more details and info on all special events, please check out the youth group’s website - www.dpyouth.com
Do you have Sunday classes and small groups? We offer a variety of classes and small groups to meet your needs. Check out the small groups page on the website for information on times and locations.
How often do you have communion? We take communion together every Sunday. Communion at DPC is open to anyone who has put their faith in Jesus. |
