PERU MISSIONS TRIP 2016

Towards the beginning of 2015, some folks in the DPC community began to get together to pray and ask Jesus how He wanted us to be investing in the ministries of our missions partners beyond our monthly giving. It was during this time that Heather Giezendanner, DPC member and Vice President of the American board for the Peruvian orphanage Corazón de Esperanza, reached out and suggested we send a team to their Peruvian Transitional Home, Luz de Vida (Light of Life). The only transitional home in all of Northern Peru, Luz de Vida is a place for young adults who have aged out of the Peruvian orphanage system to come and receive life skills training such as budgeting, cooking, and job search tools. All of this is done in a setting where the staff and mentors are on fire for the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a place where both physical and spiritual needs are met, and growth and real life readiness happens. So when Heather asked if we'd like to go serve, we watched God gather a team of church family members together and say, "Go."

Our team arrived in Peru and for ten days was able to have a front row seat to how God was using the local church to bring His kingdom into the town of Trujillo. They helped with work projects at the transitional home, attended two local church gatherings, and helped out on the sidelines at a church plant's VBS program. The beauty of their time there was that they didn't come in and begin an unsustainable work in the region. They arrived to a thriving church family already committing their lives to the gospel and seeing it restore people's hearts and lives. And they got to bear witness. Below are some photos of the team's experience, as well as an incredible video compiled by team member Shelly O. We encourage you to check it out, and if you'd like to learn more about Corazón de Esperanza, click here.
